Just Breathe Fragrance- white camphor, aphrodisiacal Egyptian Red Musk, Japanese Peppermint, myrrh gourmand, lavender aldehydes, soothing chamomile flowers, and tart Australian Myrtle Lemon.
Just breathe…..can mean so many things. When you’re trying hard to focus on something, hone in on it hard, but can’t, just breathe. When someone is mean-spirited and tries to hurt you when they don’t even know you….take a moment and just breathe. When stressed, just breathe. This can be one of the best methods of relief on earth, to take a huge deep breath from the bottom pit of your stomach to the top of your lungs and then release the breath through your mouth. It can be quite blissful.
But, what if you can’t breathe? At least properly. This was the inspiration behind this scent. Over the last five months, I’ve been sick three times, which is very rare for me. The first time, it turned into bronchitis for several weeks, second time, regular cold, and third time, another cold that turned into a cough. The kind of cold where you can’t breathe out of your nose. I decided to make up a tincture to help myself breathe easier. I make no claim of health benefits from this scent. It did help me though, and still does.
White camphor was a necessity. Remember the camphor that your mom may have spread on your chest when you were younger and were sick? White camphor is a godsend for congestion and inflammation. Next, the intense scent of Japanese Peppermint oil. I particularly like the Japanese Peppermint because it is much stronger and has a very high menthol content. A spruced up myrrh was then added. Myrrh has so many medicinal properties and aiding as a decongestant is one of them. A little lavender for relaxation and calm, and soothing chamomile to help with that nausea that comes from being sick. A note that often goes unused is lemon. You see it in decongestants as a ‘flavoring’ but, not as often in scent for illness. For this, I wanted the strongest lemon I could find, which in my opinion, is Australian Myrtle Lemon. This is such a potent and tart lemon and more lemon-y than lemon itself. It blends very well with camphor and mint. It’s also extremely uplifting and can help calm nerves and relieve anxiety. Last, I wanted something to round the scent so it could be worn as a ‘scent’, not just a head cold helper. This is where red musk comes into play. It’s been used for centuries as an aphrodisiac and its aroma represents virility and strength. Who doesn’t need that when they’re feeling ill? This red musk is tender with soft florals, woods, and citrus.
I make no claims of medicinal properties or benefits with this scent. I made it specifically for myself but, thought others might like it as well. It’s made for external use only. Apply to wrist, hand, forearm, and just breathe. At first, your sinuses will most likely be cleared due to the strength of white camphor and Japanese Peppermint. Don’t let this alarm you though. You won’t go around smelling like a peppermint stick. It passes and then dries down to the lavender laced, soft red musk scent that is soothing.
Breathe in the future. Exhale the past.
